Welcome!
The West Gate House, Inc. co-operative corporation comprises 125 apartments within two buildings, 860 and 870 West 181st Street. These six-floor, multi-family dwellings were built in 1921 and are considered “pre-war” structures. The co-operative corporation was formed in 1984.
The co-operative is located in the Hudson Heights area of Washington Heights, with views of the Hudson River, the Palisades and the George Washington Bridge from our buildings. The area is a diverse, friendly and vibrant community where neighbors know each other and say hello. The neighborhood features a range of locally-owned restaurants, bars, arts offerings and “mom-and-pop” stores.
For nature-lovers and recreation buffs, there is a wide selection of nearby parks. Our building is just one blockaway from Fort Washington Park, featuring Manhattan’s waterfront greenway path, tennis courts and the famous Little Red Lighthouse. We are also a short walk from the historic architecture and walking trails of Fort Tryon Park / The Cloisters, the soccer fields and natural forests of Inwood Hill Park, and the indoor running track of The Armory’s track and field center. Dog owners will find multiple dog runs in the neighborhood, with the closest located at J. Hood Wright Park.
Our buildings are conveniently located near the 181st Street stop on the A train. North and southbound bus routes also operate along Fort Washington. For travel outside of Manhattan, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates the George Washington Bridge Bus Station just a few blocks away, which recently underwent a $183.2 million renovation.
Then and now, West Gate House, Inc. draws residents looking to discover a small town within a big city.
